Marymount University pagenameThe best college for a student is not necessarily the highest ranking in the Forbes' listings, but the college that offers a student the most career opportunities. There is indeed a shortage of nurses, but please be aware that the education required is very challenging. Community colleges offer an Associate of Science degree in Nursing, and some diploma programs also award certificates in practical nursing. Nurse training can take a long time to complete, based on your ability to learn, and whether you are able to attend nursing school full-time. University nursing degrees, such as the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, reward graduates with advanced education, additional applied training, and competitive starting salaries.

Although the cost of tuition has risen for most 4-year colleges and universities, community colleges and trade schools remain an affordable option for those looking to earn an associates degree. The average community college student graduates with only a few thousand dollars in debt, compared to bachelors degree graduates. This means that associates degree recipients are likely to see a return on their investment sooner than those with a bachelors degree. If you're planning on transferring to a four-year program, an associates degree program can be a good idea. You can save money for the first two years of your education by studying at a local community college, but ultimately receive your bachelors degree from a four-year university.

Advanced Placement exams are offered in a variety of physical sciences, offering you college credit for honors-level classes that you have taken while still in high school. Test yourself with practice exams online, before visiting the College Board website to register to take your actual AP Tests. If you earn a score of 3 or higher on an AP Exam, you may be able to receive course credits or advanced placement, when you start college. You must request that the College Board send your official AP score report to the colleges of your choice, either at the time of testing or afterwards, through a score report request.

Most major sports that are able to field a team in intercollegiate competition have sports scholarships available. From women's gymnastics to men's track and field, coaches are seeking players to build a team around. That leadership role often is accompanied by a full-scholarship. The best time to begin searching for scholarships is before your senior year, in order to meet deadlines. Schools confirm that it is important to file financial aid forms such as the CSS Profile early in the school year.

There are several scholarship databases available online. With more than 1.5 million scholarships worth more than $3.4 billion, the scholarship search is the largest, most accurate and most frequently updated sports scholarship database. It's never too early to start planning for a sports scholarship. Take stock of your athletic abilities as you mature through high-school. Information about the number and amount of scholarships can be found in the National Postsecondary Student Aid Study (NPSAS), conducted by the National Center for Education Statistics.

Business & Medical Job Listings

Although most jobs which pay six-figure salaries require a college degree, technical fields offer high salaries based more on ability than which school you graduated from. Students will impress future bosses more with an impressive portfolio than with an advanced degree, so practice your skills as a consultant for local companies. Candidates with prior industry experience are preferred by interviewers, so you resume must show a clear pattern of success over time, based on numeric results and personal achievements.

Students will receive classroom instruction and clinical training in a hospital setting. A 4-year BSN program allows students to further specialize in the areas of pediatrics, geriatrics and mental health.
